Like the tabby, some torties may also have white accent markings, creating a "tortie with white." They also sometimes have an interesting mix of tortoiseshell, with a bonus of tabby patterning mixed throughout. Tortoiseshell cats may also be dilute, with softer versions of the colors. Instead of solid blocks, torties' coats weave the black and red throughout, creating a tapestry of color. Tortoiseshell AKA "Tortie": Torties are not true tri-color cats because they do not all contain white.A dilute calico will have pale orange or buff for the red, and gray (or "blue") for the black. "faded" shades of the original, which gives them an ethereal appearance. Dilute calicos, have the same separate blocks of color, only the colors are "diluted," i.e. They also may have blocks of tabby pattern, which produces an extremely colorful and beautiful cat. Calico: Separate solid blocks of color, which must include red (orange), black, and white.Tri-color Cats: Because of the associated genetic factors that create their color patterns, tri-color cats almost always are female, although occasional males crop up (about one in 3,000, according to this excellent article by Barbara French) Those rare males are almost always sterile, also for reasons of genetics, so don't expect to gain a fortune by selling your male calico cat.Solids: Solid colored cats come in four basic colors, plus "dilute" colors of each.Tabbies may also wear white "accessories," such as a bib, vest, or "boots." Thus, they could be described as a "tabby with white." Other patterns described for tabbies include the Ticked tabby, and Orange tabby, all of which have beautiful and unique patterns. Spotted tabbies are another official variety and while Spotted tabbies sometimes crop up in a domestic shorthair, they are also often found in certain breeds, such as the Ocicat, Bengal, Savannah, and the American Bobtail. Depending on the specific pattern, the striped tabbies may be referred to as a Mackerel tabbies or Classic tabbies. Striped tabbies are often referred to as "tiger," for obvious reasons. They are easily differentiated by their stripes, whorls, and spots ( the latter generally found on their tummies) and each pattern has a distinct name. Tabbies: Tabby cats have some of the most common patterns and are some of the most popular. Commonly seen mixed breeds in shelters include Maine Coon mix, Persian mix, and Siamese mix.

The river was only 50 centimeters (20 inches) deep at that location but the ground was muddy, so Tuffi suffered only a few scrapes. First she trampled a row of seats and then jumped through a window into the river 10 meters (33 feet) below. She boarded the train at Wuppertal-Barmen station (where Althoff had to purchase four tickets for Tuffi and one for himself).īut the carriage was crowded with journalists and officials, so when Tuffi tried to turn after a few minutes, she couldn’t and panicked. She’d already ridden on trams, drunk from a holy water fountain, delivered crates of beer to construction workers and, somewhat less heroically, eaten a bouquet of flowers and urinated on a Persian carpet.įirst her Schwebebahn trip seemed to go just fine. Tuffi was typically fearless around people, so circus owner Franz Althoff regularly used her to advertise his show. The Althoff Circus was in town and had arranged a promotional trip for the young pachyderm, who was a minor celebrity in West Germany at the time. In 1950, the Schwebebahn had its most famous passenger to date, even more high-profile than the Kaiser: Tuffi the elephant. Tim Oelbermann/picture-alliance/dpa/AP Images Construction began in 1898 and the line was ceremoniously opened in 1901, with Emperor Wilhelm II taking a test ride with wife Auguste Viktoria.Ī statue of Tuffi sits in the spot where he landed. In 1893, he offered his suspension railway system to the city, which leapt at the proposal. A booming local textile industry had seen the area grow from a small collection of settlements along the Wupper river to an urban sprawl of 40,000 inhabitants who now needed to get around.īecause the long and winding river valley made traditional rail or tramways impossible, city officials invited proposals to solve the problem – and up popped Langen. Meanwhile, the nearby city of Wuppertal had a problem. Entrepreneur and engineer Eugen Langen had been experimenting with a suspension railway for moving goods at his sugar factory in Cologne. It all began in the 1880s, in the afterglow of imperial Germany’s so-called Gründerzeit era of rapid industrial expansion. And it’s in Germany that the original, and still very much the best, can still be found still going strong in all its steampunk glory – the Wuppertal Schwebebahn. Today, the only suspension railways in operation are to be found in Japan and Germany. The idea, ironically, never really got off the ground despite a few successful if short-lived ventures like the Braniff Jetrail Fastpark System that whisked passengers from parking lot to terminal at Dallas Love Field for four years before the airport closed in 1974. Their carriages swoosh over roads, rivers and other obstructions, while passengers get to enjoy the view. Unlike boring ordinary train lines that stay determinedly fixed to terra firma, suspension railways dangle beneath a track suspended from pylons. By the year 2022, surely we would all be commuting to work on upside down railways! Suspension railways today seem like an anachronism – a 19th-century vision of what the future of transport would look like. Working out will increase your metabolism because it is working to provide you with energy, so you will get hungry after a workout. Three times a week is good start as times goes on you can increase the number. When you don’t feed yourself enough food, your body starts to slow down your metabolism (which is what makes you feel less hungry) and stores more fat, this is a survival mechanism. If you want a balance of macros in your meals your likely going to have to up your calorie intake to something more reasonable.īut again, if you do manage to stick to that calorie intake, and you truly feel fine, you'll lose a ton of weight, but like others have said make sure you develop different lifestyle habits so you can keep the weight off. Your diet also seems heavy on carbs, specifically sugar. I personally believe 750-1000 a day is unsustainable for a long time and with cardio that drops to 250-500 a day which is dangerously low. If you're going to be doing cardio at the gym make sure you're eating enough that you're NET is whatever your calorie goal is. I'd also up it to this to help maintain any muscle you have while you drop weight. Depending on your maintenance 1400-1500 should allow you to still eat 3 healthy meals a day and still lose around 2lb a week. Under 1000 calories is a very low amount, if recommend aiming for 1400-1500, but if you can sustain 1000 for a long period of time good for you. You'll probably be hungry once you start going to the gym. Also I don't feel like I'm starving, I just am not feeling any hunger and only eat when I do feel hungry. Will still continue reading what ever gets commented, not sure who to listen to. That comes out to roughly between 570 and 720 calories every day this week.Įdit 3: I have read everything that has been commented and it's seems very mixed to me, for more clarification I was not planning to start working on my muscles right away, mostly treadmill and what ever the trainer recommends to loose wieght. Also went back and counted calories I have been eating passed few days. I wouldn't mind getting a little muscular, but not alot, not sure what is a good wieght I should have either.Įdit 2: I am also a very picky eater, I love meats, and fruits, but I really do not like seafood, and vegetables. Goal, preferably I want to get down to 150 lbs (67kgs) or even lower 130 lbs (58kgs). I'm not sure how that will affect that.Įdit: Grammar. Next week I plan to start going to the gym 3 times a week. The first day I was a little hungry but the past few days I have not been. I'm at work at nights so I'm not always able to eat. Well on Monday I started eating breakfast, including lunch I had less than 1000 calories each day in the past 4 days. I normally ate between 2500-3500 calories a day. So this week I decided to start eating less. Pretty sure I have like no muscles at all. I am 17 years old, and a male, and weigh around 215 lbs (97 kgs), also 5'7 is my height.
